I'm struck by how this reveals the relationship between tree - the living part that is like a thin balloon-like layer all around the entire tree - and the wood we cut and use, which is inside the tree, and is dead already. The living organism has an opening on what already looks like the siding on an old unpainted barn.
I love this picture. I am so excited about taking some pictures on my country property.
